2025 Hansa Worlds Overview

The 2025 Hansa Class Combined World and International Championships, the 2025 Hansa Worlds, will be conducted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, Newport, New South Wales, Australia from 23 to 30 March 2025 with racing on Pittwater in the vicinity of Scotland Island.

Registration, equipment inspection and para classification are scheduled on Sunday and Monday 23 & 24 March.  An Opening Ceremony will be held on Monday the 24th.   

The participating Hansa Classes and the championships that will be sailed during the following six days (Tuesday 25 – Sunday 30 March) are as follows:

Hansa 2.3 One Person

The Hansa 2.3 World Championship will comprise up to nine races with two races scheduled each day.  Weather permitting, it is intended to provide a rest day during the racing program.  It is anticipated that courses will be windward-leeward or trapezoid.  Servo equipped 2.3s are permitted but there will not be a separate servo championship.  There will not be a Two Person Championship conducted in the Hansa 2.3.

Hansa 303 One Person

The Hansa 303 One Person World Championship will comprise up to nine races with three races scheduled on each of the three racing days for this division.  The Hansa 303 One Person competition will be sailed on different days to the Hansa 303 Two Person competition, enabling sailors to compete in both championships.  It is anticipated that courses will be windward-leeward or trapezoid. 

The Hansa 303 One Person World Championship is open to competitors of all ages, abilities and gender but a number of Para Sailing World Championship with additional eligibility criteria will be conducted in conjunction with the open fleet racing.  These include:

  • Para Sailing World Championship – One Person Non-Technical – Male
  • Para Sailing World Championship – One Person Non-Technical – Female

RPAYC as Organising Authority has also applied to World Sailing to conduct a Para Sailing International Championship – One Person Non-TechnicalAthletes with Intellectual Impairment, however this championship is yet to be confirmed.

Hansa 303 Two Person

The Hansa 303 Two Person World Championship will comprise up to nine races with three races scheduled on each of the three racing days for this division.  The Hansa 303 Two Person competition will be sailed on different days to the Hansa 303 One Person competition, enabling sailors to compete in both championships.  It is anticipated that courses will be windward-leeward or trapezoid. 

The Hansa 303 Two Person World Championship is open to competitors of all ages, abilities and gender but a number of Para Sailing World Championship with additional eligibility criteria will be conducted in conjunction with the open fleet racing. 

RPAYC as Organising Authority has also applied to World Sailing to conduct a Para Sailing International Championship – Two Person Non-Technical – Athletes with Intellectual Impairment, however this championship is yet to be confirmed.

Liberty

The Hansa Liberty World Championship will comprise up to nine races with two races scheduled each day.  Weather permitting, it is intended to provide a rest day during the racing program.  A Liberty Servo International Championship will be conducted in conjunction with the open fleet racing.  It is anticipated that courses will be windward-leeward or trapezoid. 

The Hansa Liberty World Championship is open to competitors of all ages, abilities and gender but a Para Sailing World Championship with additional eligibility criteria will be conducted in conjunction with the open fleet racing – the Para Sailing World Championship – One Person Non-Technical – Athletes with High Support Needs.

SKUD 18

The SKUD 18 International Championship will comprise up to nine races with two races scheduled each day.  Weather permitting, it is intended to provide a rest day during the racing program.  It is anticipated that courses will be trapezoid.  Class Rule Section J.5 will apply – the helm sits in a centreline seat, but the crew can hike.

The SKUD 18 International Championship is open to competitors of all ages, abilities and gender but RPAYC as Organising Authority has also applied to World Sailing to conduct a Para Sailing International Championship – Two-Person Keelboat Open with additional eligibility criteria.  This championship is yet to be confirmed.

Summary

Altogether these eight confirmed championships (and another three championships still to be confirmed) will be sailed over six racing days at the 2025 Hansa Worlds.  The RPAYC welcomes sailors of all ages and abilities from around the world, to come together in Australia to enjoy each other’s company and for some great racing in a picturesque part of Sydney.

The Prize Giving and Closing Ceremony will be held on Sunday the 30th of March.
