The 2012 Access Class World and International Championship was held at the Middle Harbour Yacht Club on Sydney’s iconic Harbour from April 6th to 13th, 2012.
Sailors from 9 countries made up the fields across the four classes, with competitors from Australia making up the majority of the competitors. Racing took place in the Hansa 2.3, 303 Singles, 303 Doubles, Liberty and SKUD18 divisions, with boats shipped from New Zealand to bolster the local fleet for charters.
The opening ceremony comprised a ‘Welcome to County’ and smoking ceremony conducted by representatives of the traditional Aborginal land owners.
Competitors faced winds of up to 25knots on one of the days, which challenged some of the less experienced competitors, but provided a great vista of the SKUD18’s under spinnaker on the Harbour.
